While many of the expat blogs continue to discuss Carnival, some focus on the other headline entertainment event – the San Remo Music Festival, now in its 59th year. The festival qualifies for the strange category, with even Annie Lennox producing a weird video blog to promote her appearance. American Girl in Italy picks her favourites singers and has a photo of the porn star who attempted to attract Hugh Hefner’s attention at the event by streaking onto the stage. Draped in at least three Bunnies, Hefner apparently wasn’t too sure what was happening. Definitely showing his age. According to Ansa News, this year’s event was destined to be controversial due to protests from gay rights and consumer associations.
On a different quirky note, while cycling is not something I normally follow, I recently came across Italian Cycling blog which references “Totò al Giro d’Italia”, an Italian comedy filmed in 1948. Italian Cycling has both a typical advertising poster of the time, as well as a film clip from YouTube. Love the stylish cycling kit.
Strange and quirky photos enjoyed in this roundup are Rome Photo Blog’s ‘Follow the Yellow Poles’ series and Italian Food Forever’s photo of a ‘salumi’ stall in Norcia in Umbria, which looks more like a Pacific island mask than a stall selling cured pork products.
